I have a pretty interesting job to say the least! I work at an International Emergency Shelter for teenage boys who are here in the States illegally. The job can be rewarding but it definitely has its difficult days [more often than not.] The boys come to our shelter are blessed because instead of being put in jail, since they are minors they get an opportunity to be educated, they are given medical attention, provided a lawyer and case manager and thus begins their journey as an American citizen unless the court sees fit to send them back to their home country. Many of them come with hopes to work and send money back to their families in their home countries or reunite with a family member here in the states. Whatever the journey, each boy has an interesting story! They do not have easy lives by any means, they have been taught to struggle, get by and just survive! One of my responsibilities is to help teach the boys manners.....boy is that hard, especially since some of our boys were never taught to respect women.
Just for fun I teach some of the boys English and its great to see them excited to learn. Sometimes I get the opportunity to play games with them too! They always get mad that they can't beat me at tic tac toe or connect 4...haha! It's fun to see them try!
Another perk of being in our center is that with good behavior they get to go on outings on Saturdays.
I enjoy seeing them have a blast outside the vicinity of our shelter. Just last week we went to the San Antonio Zoo and I was able to catch a few pictures of our day.
